    September 3 - December 13, 2024. No Pickleball: October 25; November 29

  • To keep Pickleball in Greenwich welcoming, inclusive and joyful, the town has implemented a Pickleball CODE OF ETIQUETTE. This action was taken in response to growing conflicts and general lack of civility among players.

Three bids for the four new courts at Eastern came in on October 23, 2024, and all exceeded the $275K budgeted by the BET - by a lot. (Originally Parks and Rec asked for $375K but the BET cut the funding down to $275K because they felt the courts could be built for much less.)

Lets be honest with each other, the site at EGCC is a hot mess (aka, challenging) and as a result, the design was created with just 5 foot sidelines. AKA, 5 feet between the edge of the court and the chain link fence, which doesn’t meet the minimum recommendations of USA Pickleball.

Sigh. :(

This is all VERY discouraging. But the hardworking folks at Parks and Rec are trying to figure it out. Let’s all stay tuned for news of the results of their recent meetings and discussions and see how we can help them.

We are between a rock and a hard place with no where to go from here. Fingers crossed!

History of Pickleball in Greenwich.

Pickleball was created in Bainbridge WA in 1965, on a backyard badminton court, with a wiffleball and ping pong paddes.* But Pickleball was only introduced (officially) in Greenwich CT in 2010 through the efforts of USA Pickleball Association Ambassador, Betsy Underhill.
